B Mus (Hons) Pg Dip LRAM

Ben was born and raised in Bedford. He was a music scholar at Bedford School

where he won both the junior and senior brass prizes. He also performed and

went on tour with the Bedfordshire Youth Orchestra. At 18, Ben took a place at

the Royal Academy of Music to study trumpet. At the Academy, he was taught by

John Wallace and he performed on a variety of recordings.


Ben has played principal trumpet with the Britten-Pears and British Youth

Opera Orchestras, performing in venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall and

Covent Garden. He also performed with the Carl Rosa and Doyle Carte Opera

companies and the Mark Morris Contemporary dance group.


Over the last decade Ben has worked at as a Head of Music at Abbs Cross

Performing Arts College in London before moving back to Bedford to become

Head of Music at Redborne Upper School. He currently runs a wide variety of

extra-curricular orchestras and groups that perform in school and in the wider

community.


Ben became the conductor of the Ampthill Concert Orchestra in 2010 and has

led performances of works that include Holst The Planets Suite, Saint Saens Cello

Concerto and the Bruch Violin Concerto.
